The Bioscope, in association with The Embassy Of Belgium in Pretoria, Flanders, and The Kingdom of The Netherlands, is proud to host this special film festival in the framework of The Week of the Dutch Language.

Tickets have been made FREE courtesy of the organisers. All foreign language films screened at The Bioscope will have English subtitles.

LOW COUNTRIES FILM FESTIVAL: Cool Abdoul

PLOT: Ismail Abdoul is a talented young boxer, ready to make it to the top. He’s found the love of his life, Sylvie, and is making a decent living as a bouncer. But when the opportunity for more money and power arises, he seizes it. In no time, he and his men control all the club doors in the city, including the drug traffic behind them. Abdoul becomes a living legend, both in the ring and out of it. Blinded by success, he gets caught in a web of his own lies and violent actions and is forced to fight the ultimate match: against himself.

2) LOW COUNTRIES FILM FESTIVAL: Fathers & Sons

PLOT: Brothers Loet and Winnie are in their forties, but still live at home with their father Baltus. The sons have lived their entire life off their father’s pension and do everything he tells them to. But Baltus suddenly dies. Now what? The brothers have always heard they are incapable of anything, and have never ventured further than the local store. So to keep benefiting from the pension, they decide to put him in the freezer for the time being and find someone in a retirement home who can replace him.

PLOT: Shy, deaf Jamie (12) starts at the boarding school for the deaf. She is reluc- tant to make new friends. But when she is unable to go home one weekend, an unexpected plan develops with her bold classmate Imane (13). Together they set off on a road trip to Paris, but things don’t go as planned, turning the trip into an adventure. Jamie is forced to come out of her shell and the special encounters she experiences, make it a journey to remember.
